Republic of Bulgaria applies the Common visa policy of the European Union under the terms of the Treaty of Accession from 1st January 2007.

A foreign citizen can enter the Republic of Bulgaria on presentation of a valid regular identification document for across-border travelling, as well as a visa for entry, transitting or stay in the country, when applicable.

Visas are not obtained at the checkpoint when entering the country.

Visas are not required for citizens of the following countries, and they are permitted a stay of 30 days: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Japan, Israel, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zeeland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Tunisia, USA and Vatican.
